NIAGARA ON THE LAKE, Ontario - The Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake recently announced the installation of its first vehicle charging station.  This environmentally-conscious hotel is one of the first in Southern Ontario to adopt greener business practices and cater to the ever growing eco-traveler market. 

"When Stephen Bieda, the Sun Country Highway Regional Director of Ontario, came to present me with the idea of installing an electric vehicle charging station at our hotel last month, I was very excited," said Frank Vismeg, Managing Director of Marketing and Sales at the Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake. "I knew immediately that this was a green marketing opportunity we could not afford to miss." 

In 2009, the Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Airport became Canada's first LEED certified hotel, demonstrating Hilton WorldWide's commitments to sustainability through water savings, energy efficiency, material selection, and environmental health - which are also practiced at the Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake. 

With the installation of the Sun Country Highway 90-amp charging station, the Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake can attract electric vehicle owners from farther away. The hotel has two parking spaces with a sign to notify drivers that the spots are reserved for electric vehicles only. 

The Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake offers special room rates for guests with electric vehicles.  Free EV charging is one of the hotel's complimentary guest benefits - like wired and wireless Internet, fridges, coffee makers, and the 24-hour business center. 

According to the Hotel Association of Canada, green hotels like the Hilton Garden Inn Niagara on the Lake earn an extra LEED point if an electric vehicle charging station is installed and are able to market their hotel as "EV friendly."
